About Us

PRESIDENT

Carla is a native Houstonian and attended Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart and the University of Notre Dame. Completing medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, she is currently a pediatric hospitalist who mostly works with children with special needs. She and her husband are members of St. Thomas More Catholic Church.

VICE PRESIDENT

Chris is a husband and father of 6 living in Katy. A native of El Paso, he completed undergraduate studies at Texas A&M University, followed by medical school and residency at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. He currently practices General Pediatrics in the Katy area and spends his non-work time participating in Pro-Life and Pro-Family events.

SECRETARY

Christine grew up in southern California and studied Biology and German at Stanford University. She attended medical school at Baylor College of Medicine and completed her pediatric residency at Texas Children’s Hospital. She is currently a primary care pediatrician in Pearland. She and her husband are parishioners at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

TREASURER

Justo is a native of Lima, Peru and earned his medical degree at Cayetano Heredia University. He then completed his residency and sub specialty medical training in the United States in pulmonary medicine, critical care and sleep medicine. He and his family are parishioners of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

MARKETING AND PR

Annette graduated from Rice University, and later earned her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from WGU Texas. She is currently a Structural Heart Coordinator and pursuing her Masters in Nursing Education at the University of St. Thomas. She, her husband, Andrew, and son, Aaron, live in Sugar Land and are parishioners of St. Laurence Catholic Church.

BOARD MEMBER

Bill is a board certified orthopedic surgeon practicing in Houston for over 20 years. He obtained a medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine where he is currently a faculty member. He has served in various leadership positions at the College, with national Orthopedic Societies, and at St. Luke’s Hospital in the Texas Medical Center. Bill and his family are parishioners at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

BOARD MEMBER

Dr. Taylor is originally from New York and graduated from Fordham University. He got to Texas as fast as he could, and earned his MD from UT Houston. He is married to Marilyn Mayer, MD and they practice together in Cypress. They have four children, all of whom are attending or went to Notre Dame (their mother brainwashed them). He is an internist and geriatrician and loves to go on medical missions. He is a parishioner at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

APP REPRESENTATIVE

Jonathan is a Physician Assistant, who graduated from Baylor College of Medicine. He was raised in Austin, and received a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish, with a minor in biopsychology from the University of Dallas. After becoming a PA, Jonathan entered an oncology fellowship at the UT MD Anderson Cancer Center, and now works there in the Lymphoma-Myeloma department. He is currently a parishioner of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

RESIDENT REPRESENTATIVE

Tera is originally from Chicago and attended the University of Notre Dame prior to completing medical school in Des Moines, Iowa. She is currently a pediatric resident at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and is excited to be a part of the CHPH community. Tera and her husband, George, are parishioners at St. Joseph Syro-Malabar Catholic Church in Missouri City.

RESIDENT RESPRESENTATIVE

Jasmine grew up in El Paso surrounded by her awesome Mexican family. She attended the University of Notre Dame and obtained her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine. She is currently a Pediatric Resident at Texas Children’s Hospital. She is currently a parishioner at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

ADVISOR TO THE BOARD

Arland is the President of the St. John Paul II Foundation. Mr. Nichols earned a Master of Divinity from the University of St. Thomas and he holds a certification in Health Care Ethics from the National Catholic Bioethics Center. A popular speaker and writer, Mr. Nichols is currently completing a Doctorate in bioethics from Regina Apostolorum in Rome. Father of nine children, Arland and his wife are parishioners at St. Bartholemew the Apostle Catholic Church.

CHAPLAIN

Fr. Hinkley was born and raised in Southwest Houston. He attended the University of Notre Dame where he majored in theology, Greek and Latin. He studied in Rome at the Pontifical North American College and completed his licentiate studies with a specialization in the Sacraments and Liturgy. He is the Director of Spiritual Formation at the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston and Adjunct Academic Faculty at the University of St. Thomas School of Theology, St. Mary’s Seminary.

STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE

A native Houstonian, Vanessa Phung is the elder of two children born to Vietnamese immigrants. She graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a biology degree. Vanessa is currently a student at McGovern Medical School and is interested in general pediatrics. She and her family are parishioners at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE

Aaron is a medical student at Baylor College of Medicine and interested in neurology. He is also an MPH student at UT Health. He is originally from League City, and attended UT Austin for his undergraduate studies. He is a parishioner and sings in the choir at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Walsingham. He enjoys being a member of CHPH for the community and for the events and information it provides about how faith influences and impacts how we view and practice our profession.
